Well, I'm a student at Wendell Smith and I think Wendell smith has some very great teachers that are dedicated and actually care about the students. At the same time they cant really control us because if they could control us, our testing scores wouldn't be below average and under 80%. It's not necessarily the teachers, but the students. This school is also like this due to the enviorment. I think if we had more income than before, our school would change because we would be able to acheive more things needed, such as lockers, new books, and etc.. We would appreciate and be grateful for more things. But I love all the teachers in W.Smith. We Rock As A Team.! :)

This is a great with with bright kids and dedicated staff working to make their education a fun and and fulfilling one!

The staff, administration, and teachers do their part everyday to ensure the educational success of every student. However, if the parents and community refuse to step in and support students' learning at home, the children will inevitably fail. Students are at school for approximately 5 hours a day, 3-4 hours of which they are actively engaged. In no way can that amount of time trump the 20+ hours they spend at home being affected by the poor practices of their family and community.

The staff at Wendell Smith works extremely hard everyday in order to educate their students. The number one challenge that the school faces is the lack of parent support in encouraging positive student behavior. Many families also seem to be unaware as to how to properly reinforce strong study and strategies in their students.

I have one child at Wendell Smith. There is trully a need to get back to the 3R's (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic). How about longer school days to be used to assist the children in the 3R's. I agree, the School Board should close Wendell Smith (which can be done during the summer months) in order to reorganize the school. Open the school with up-to-date technology, computer for every child and a qualified teacher in the classrooms. I understand that Smith 'used to be' a 'good school'. We are letting our children down by providing a substandard education at a time that the children need to learn so much more. There are some good teachers at Smith, but, there are many teachers who need to be re-evaluated, and re-assigned. We as parents need to know more about options and the LNCB mandate. Please help the children at Wendell Smith School.

The teachers don't care. They have no respect for the students. They are not interested in teaching the students. The Board should step in and close this school and re-open it with all new faculty. It used to be a wonderful place.
