Through Chicago Public Schools (CPS), you have several school choice options in addition to your neighborhood school. There are 32 elementary magnet schools, 10 magnet high schools and 22 charter schools. Applications are due in December for high schools and mid-January for elementary schools. There are also 12 gifted centers that serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Admission to the gifted program is by exam.
Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as "in need of improvement" have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
