My daughter graduated from Northside in June 2008. She loved everything about the school, including the many excellent teachers, challenging curriculum, great music/fine arts program, and a social life (including several dances each year, from the informal back to school dance to prom). She made many good friends, and they are staying in touch despite scattering to various midwestern colleges. Regarding college, she is attending a small, rigorous college and received an academic scholarship. I thank Northside for preparing her well for college life.

I am currently a student at NCPHS and I totally disagree with the comment that the parent posted saying that NCP isnt a great school. This person obviously does not know what they are talking bout, it has a great curriculum and a great staff and activities. Its a awesome place to be. She is probably jealous.

Although it is considered one of the best schools in Chicago, that is more due to the intelligence of the students then the actual teaching of the school. It seems that there, they do not do anything to try and make the students happy, and instead they rely on the students, more then the students rely on them. They have very low funding, and the teachers aren't very good there. I initially put my son there for its reputation, but I pulled him out after I saw what it truly is. Thankfully I had the choice to put him in a private school, but if you don't have that sort of option, it is probably a better choice to send your kid there rather than another cps school. I would rate NCP 2.5/5, but that isn't an option so i'll round it up to three.

Northside Prep is the absolute best school any child could ask for - the teachers are committed and friendly, the students are motivated, and the facilities are amazing. The programs and classes are superior, with studies suited to almost any high achieving student. The freedom experienced and the amount of responsibility handed to the children is more than anywhere else, and they handle it brilliantly. Both the music and art programs are fantastic, with high levels of parent and teacher involvement. The school has few discipline problems, and there is a high level of cooperation and familiarity within the entire school. One of the best and most rewarding places to go to school, and an amazing opportunity for a superior education.

This school is great! The academic program is great and the school is number one in the state of IL for PSAE test scores and has a world renound Advanced Placement program. The parent involvement in the school is very high where the parents raise money for activities that the board does not pay for. The money raised by the parents is over 200 thousand a year.

Northside College Prepratory High School is an amazing school for the bright and hardworking. It offers every educational need for a bright future, and the parent involvment is huge as it has a parent network. There is a great relationship with the principal and children, and though the work is tough it is made up for with the vast amount of fun activities offered.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Illinois used the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) to test students in grade 11 in reading, math and science. What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
