This school is becoming one of the best public schools in Chicago, and is doing so in record time, as evidenced not just by its rapid improvement in test scores, but by the pilot programs and autonomy its been awarded by CPS (AMPS status), the attention other schools are paying to its methods, the progressive, enriching curriculum and programming improvements, and the faith and support it has garnered from the parent, neighborhood and business community. It is achieving this not with luck, personal connections, reputation, or huge grants, but with the hard work, expertise, creativity, energy and resourcefulness of its administration, staff, parents, neighborhood, and extended community. As a neighborhood school required to accept all students who live within its boundaries, it is working with a diverse student base and achieving as good, or better, results in all of these measures than CPS schools to which students have to apply. My personal experience as a parent involves an administration that, despite its expertise, confidence and mission, has stopped to listen to the needs of the parent community, and accommodated when appropriate. Students attending are lucky to be a part of the academic and sociological magic going on here.
