Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I wanted to comment about the preschool program. The teacher is amazing. She actually emails every parent a written report on how the class is doing. These people really care.

Best CPS elementary school. Teachers are caring, supportive and simply amazing. If you wasn't your child to get a well rounded education this is the place. Organized fundraising, school dances and wonderful staff.

Wonderful inclusion of children with atypical learning needs here. The teachers are all excellent, caring, and fun professionals. The parent community is extremely strong and cooperative -- they raise lots of money for extras like Teacher's Aides, Special Ed teachers, and equipment, and initiate programs for tolerance and community service. The newish principal brought music and art back!

As a former student of this school, I can confidently say that this school is below average academically and beyond. While situated in a great neighborhood on the north side of Chicago, it doesn't match up to the kind of educational standards that you need to meet if you want to be a great school in Chicago. Its teachers are lackluster and its school facilities are very old. Bell Elementary is close by and clearly beats Audubon by a league and a half. Early on in my education there I was very bored with the curriculum there, and I felt like the teaching could have been much better. Their special needs or education accommodation is very unsatisfactory. Overall, if you want to enroll your child in a friendly environment, you're in the neighborhood, and academic excellence isn't a priority, then go for it. But, honestly, in the complex of schools in CPS, there are much better schools, even in the north side.

I was a student at Audubon I graduated in 1999, it was a great school then and it has only gotten better with time. The teachers, and principal are great with the kids education and caring about everyone. My daughter will be starting 1st grade and I am confident that just like her previous years she will succeed due to all the hard work the teachers do with the students

My daughter is in her 3rd year at this school, and I feel so fortunate to live in this neighborhood where this is the elementary school. In an era where charter schools are the rage, Audubon is a reminder that with cooperation between the principal, teachers, AND parents, a neighborhood CPS school can succeed and even excel. Don't give up on neighborhood schools. Charters are not the answer, Mayor Emanuel.

I graduated Audubon in 2010 and am currently attending Lane Tech High School. I really recommend this school to everyone. It's teachers are wonderful, really supportive and do a great job at getting to know each of their student. Audubon also has a great principal who is greatly involved in all aspects of the school.

Our son is going to preschool there and so far things are really bad, teacher (name witheld due to tos of the website) is taking notes about kids behavior and kids repeatedly told us that she neglected to address their needs and requests. My son was crying because he didn't understand what she wants from him and she didn't want to tell him. Since these are really little kids, I am really frustrated.

We love Audubon! The principal is amazing, and every teacher my kids have had has been stellar. The TBPK has blown me away (every bit as good as the Montessori we attended previously). I also love how they differentiate kids within the classrooms. My daughter gets special math lessons and a special list of books that are right for her level.

This school is far from being out of touch with it's students, staff, parents and community. Audubon has continued to strive forward making this a friendly and inviting atmosphere, yet focusing on education and helping students feel able to better their education with all resources available to them. My child is getting a better education in this school, then I received at mine. Many thanks go to Audubon's staff and all that make this school what it is.

I have 2 children at Audubon and over the past 7 years I can see the tremendous growth in the school. A lot of these positive results are due to the experienced faculty, the parents' participation and the wonderful students. I feel fortunate to have my children in a neighborhood city school that has the right qualities such as diversity, integrity, safety, and high academic standards. I only have positive things to say about Audubon.

The school is such a landmark in the neighborhood, and so beautifully maintained. The holiday program is truly a reflection of the wonderful diversity and world view represented in the school. I enjoy the comradery of the families evidenced every day , in their many projects, and always on special occasions. Pride in the school is evident in the faculty, staff, students, and parents. This school is becoming one of the best public schools in Chicago, and is doing so in record time, as evidenced not just by its rapid improvement in test scores, but by the pilot programs and autonomy its been awarded by CPS (AMPS status), the attention other schools are paying to its methods, the progressive, enriching curriculum and programming improvements, and the faith and support it has garnered from the parent, neighborhood and business community. It is achieving this not with luck, personal connections, reputation, or huge grants, but with the hard work, expertise, creativity, energy and resourcefulness of its administration, staff, parents, neighborhood, and extended community. As a neighborhood school required to accept all students who live within its boundaries, it is working with a diverse student base and achieving as good, or better, results in all of these measures than CPS schools to which students have to apply. My personal experience as a parent involves an administration that, despite its expertise, confidence and mission, has stopped to listen to the needs of the parent community, and accommodated when appropriate. Students attending are lucky to be a part of the academic and sociological magic going on here.

A perfect balance. This school is just what I was looking for. An urban school with a mixed student population, highly involved parents and dynamic leadership. The principal is in his 2nd year and has brought, energy and new ideas to what was already a pretty good school. There are now 4 teachers at the school who have achieved National Board certification (out of only 18 classroom teachers in the whole school). Parents have conducted beautification initiatives throughout the school (paint, student projects, etc.) and are fundraising with enthusiasm. Best of all, my children (both of whom are reading well above grade level) love their teachers and we have made friendships with parents and teachers that I hope will last a long time.

This school provides an environment in which my child can grow, learn and express himself. The school has a very warm and friendly feel and the administration is responsive to parents. There are some very active parents and it feels like there is a lot of momentum towards making this school excellent. It is currently a math and science magnet cluster.

This school is a place to thrive. The principal and teachers are the best. My son is special needs and in Kindergarten. The principal stepped right up and welcomed us and gave such a specific and sophisticated team to give my son tools to succeed. I researched two other great CPS schools before moving into the district and could not have made a better choice. The best After School Program you will ever know. The genuine smiling of the office staff to the dedication of all. The enthusiasm of the parents, students and staff is contagious. Audubon Parent Amy C.
