Salem Hyde is an excellent school. My child has been there for two years. He is very bright and his needs for intellectual stimulation has been met with special accomodations created by the teachers just for my son. I believe this is a little gem in the City of Syracuse! We could have had our son attend the expensive private schools in the metropolitan area but we are glad that we chose to send our son to Salem Hyde; our son absolutely loves Salem Hyde!
The parent who wrote that there are some very good teachers was correct. However the administration that punishes good teachers for trying to help the the kids and gives them a dress down distracts from any good that could come out of this school and the teachers. Truly a shame that such pettiness lives in a school district that can not graduate 50% of there students. Shame on the administration, and shame on the school for allowing it to happen. And shame on Albany for not stepping in with more force to help our children succeed.
all of my children attended this school and recieved a great foundation for learning. plenty of extra curricular activities. no violence and incredible teachers. i strongly recommend sending your loved ones to this school
In 2002 I've believed this school to be one of the better schools in Syracuse. After my child had attended for 3 years it was noticeable that the level of acedemics and education has deminished or became worst than the previous year. I firmly feel the State Budget had effected the schools performance thus our economy has grown with more people living in poverty. New York State has yet to prove we are in contention with becoming as outstanding educators compared to other states or foriegn countries. Out of 33 Elementary Schools, which Salem Hyde was listed in the TOP 5-10 has dropped out of the race within the City of Syracuse. That is likely why last year a friend considered Private School for their child who did not attend public school. Focus on what our children need to learn not the State Exams. They will pass those Exams if taught not coached.
Our son currently attends kindergarten at Salem Hyde. Actually this is his second year at this school because he attended the pre-K program last year. Because our son is very bright, we were very concerned that he would be bored with school. Luckily, his wonderful teacher challenges him every day, and his motivation for learning and succeeding continues to blossom. This school offers a number of extracurricular and after school activities in which parents and families are encouraged to participate. We have attended school dances, bingo night, and our son takes the after school karate program. It is quite evident that most teachers and administration have great pride in this school. There are sources in the community that have eluded to 'issues' between administration and teachers. One would never know of any issues to exist because the professionalism of the entire faculty and support staff is of very high standards.
