My son has been attending Lillian Black Elementary school for two years now and I have to say that I am very disappointed with them this year. My son has been coming home with a lot of complaints about bullying and I have spoken to the teacher and the principal. Yet my son keeps coming home about conflicts involving violence. The questions I can not seem to get answered is why is nothing being done about it? Why is this being allowed? Whether a child is the victim or the instigator, why is there a lack of supervision? The last time I checked school was suppose to be a safe environment secondary only to home. There should be a strict no tolerance policy for violence of any and all nature with serious measures. It is happening to frequently and has become ridiculous in proportions. I am seriously considering transferring my son to a better rated school that takes safety more seriously.

My kids love the school i have 2 in the school and my 3rd will be there in aug10. Ive moved on base and then to fayetteville.. i havent and wont change my kids out of that school. the kids are humble due to the enviornment. I have a friend who works at the school and she is very dedicated to her job. the teachers love the kids and go the extra mile. the principle does make them do unnecessary things. but the teachers are great and they take the extra step to make sure the kids have what they need.. my sons teacher bought all the kids a coat in her class because 1 child needed one.. this school is great.

I have had two children in the school and getting ready for the 3rd one to go. I believe the teachers do a good job of teaching the children, but it is also the parents job at home to help teach also. My children have had a wonderful experience at Lillian Black and have really enjoyed the teachers. One of my children was on the A/B honor roll and the other was in the National Beta Society. So evidentally the teachers were doing something right. I want to give props to all of the teachers at Lillian Black. Keep up the good work.

As a former teacher there, the previous message rings true in many aspects. I hear that they received the distinction of School of Excellence this year which is wonderful! I understand the schools are under tremendous pressure to comply with state standards, but the principal is also allowed some flexibility on the rest. Everything is focused on the testing (Math and Reading)and the poor children do not get enough exposure in much else (Social Studies,Science,History, the arts). By the time they get to middle school it's too late. Unfortunately the school is more concerned with its image and enrichment activities. If they would stop overworking the staff with extra duties and unecessary clubs maybe the teachers can utilize what little time they already have and put it to good use.

I find this school below the standard. I think that the Principle is more interrested in being politically correct and keeping herself out of hot water than letting teachers teach. Also if a student is struggleing or just not doing the work and goofing off, the teachers will not inform the parent that their child is not doing their work. This has happened twice this year with my child. I had to ask what was going on. I was told he wasn't turning in assignments but was not shown the grade book as to what wasn't turned in. My child dropped 2 letter grades in math and science. The teacher failed to inform me that assignments were not being turned in. In fact there was No comment on his report card.
