Lowrance School has a long tradition of serving the needs of students with disabilities. The curriculum is designed to serve the diverse student population. The WS/FC System's Special Education Department and the Regular School Departments support this school financially very well. The Principal and Staff have worked hard to secure auxillary funding from many business partners. The Partners support in volunteer hours and financially. The Principal is a highly skilled special needs educator with many years of regular school experience too. Teachers and assistants partipate in contnuous training. Students Assessment Scores are consistently high. . In 1993, Lowrance became an integrative part of Hanes Middle School. There are many opportunities forInclusion of special students with regular students in electives, Phy Ed. computer tech and school events . The Principal is a strong leader, caring and child centered. Reading, math, daily living and technology skills are taught along with occupational training by a skilled and loving staff. School safety and student health needs are met by staff with a low student to teacher/aide ratio, a commitment to personal care. A great school!
This is a special needs for school for students with significant disabilities who require specialized instruction on a functional or life skills level. The teachers are caring, professionals dedicated to the education of these students. Not all teachers know how to teach life skills or how to make learning accessible to students like they do. Some are excellent, some are ok teachers and of course like other schools some are not so great.
This school is for students who have such bad disabilities that other schools won't take them. It is hard to get people to teach at such a school & it shows in the teachers they have. A few are good but most are not. Fight to get your kid in a regular school with a special education classroom. Lowrance doesn't get any funds from the district and the classes are overcrowded and staff is not very good. They get the people who other schools won't hire.
Hanes Middle School is connected to this school so I can observe their status. They have wonderful teachers who really care about their students. It's great to see the kids make progress and sometimes if they are doing godd they let them participate in Hanes electives.
