If a parent doesn't volunteer, regardless of how qualified or hardworking their child may be, they won't secure any leadership positions, particularly within the music department (OPIMA). In addition, the vice principal is really biased and if you say anything even slightly negative about Jews, she'll take immediate action, so it's best to be cautious.

This school does an excellent job of promoting a well rounded student, from academics, to social well being, to sports, to teambuilding and more. It is the type of school that nurtures the quintessential "whole child". While schools that nurture the "whole child" used to be quite common 30 years ago, today they are fewer and far between - which makes this school even more of a gem. A student can almost always find something to excel at here, because there are so many offerings. For students that like academics, the school provides some support for advanced math, spelling and geography bees, talent shows, and more. For students that like sports, the school offers a wide range of sports, including flag football, soccer, basketball, and more. Moreover, unlike other Silicon Valley schools that apply pressure on a student to succeed, which often pits students against each other and generates animosity, this school fosters an environment where students work with each other, regardless of skill level, so that all students feel appreciated and needed. This naturally generates an environment where nearly all students are friendly with one another as opposed to trying to compete with one another. Overall, this school is a hidden gem and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants their child to grow up as a good human being, with respect and love for their parents, and who will be a productive member of society.

This is a terrible school! I pulled both of my children from this school and am fortunate enough to be able to have them in a private online school. The teachers are bullies and Amy Wallace is quite inadequate and grossly inappropriate in terms of handling situations involving students and the conduct of the teachers. If you advocate for your child she will make sure your child feels isolated and targeted. The grades for the school continue to decline, its a money pit. For low income families that have no other choice you get stuck with having this horrible school. Teachers are too busy texting and messing on their phones. They make fun of and bully kids openly with other teachers and in front of other kids. They will leave your child unattended. For a school that USED to be one of the best in the county it had fallen so far. A strong look needs to be taken into administration.

My child has attended this school for 4 years and it is the absolute worst experience a parent could have. The faculty does a poor job at best at teaching basic concepts such as math and reading and the school is rife with bullying. Even after multiple attempts to resolve with the school the principal Forest Holbrook will never give you a straight answer and will lie to your face and tell you he addressed the problem. He loves attention, stands in front of the school everyday, but has no clue how to lead or deliver educational results at the elementary level. He is more of a mayor looking to enrich his own pocket than a school advocate for new learners.

I have been a Turning Point parent for four years and have two of my children here. I would recommend this school enthusiastically to anybody! A sweet story illuminating the Turning Point community and experience: my youngest is 4 years old and in preschool, while my eldest is 9 years old and in 3rd grade. My youngest is celebrating this weekend with a birthday party. Of course, many of her preschool classmates are attending. However, two of my 3rd grader's best friends gave my preschooler thoughtful gifts this week, and two more of my 3rd grader's friends are making time to come to the party. When the older girls see my preschooler, their eyes light up and they always run over to each other for hugs and games of tag. My husband and I were marveling at how lucky both our daughters are that our 3rd grader has such kind friends, but we were also talking about how grateful we are to be at a school where our preschooler can have friends so much older than her, who love her and who she loves right back. It's really a testament to Turning Point and to what an incredible close-knit and supportive community it is - such awesome kids of all ages. A truly magical and special place. All this to say, we count ourselves very lucky!

Luella has a family atmosphere. I have never had a bad experience with the office staff or teachers. They work with students to graduate. I'm glad my kids at at The Lue!

Normally, I’m not the type of parent to write reviews. especially on schools that the child, especially my child that supposed to learn in. My first child, who I want to remain anonymous, is struggling to find friends around school. She told me that whenever she tried to make this one girl her friend, the girl slapped her across the face with a jacket! I find this really immature and I don’t work and pay the teachers bills just to see them not educating my child! The teachers need to grow up! We’re not in fantasyland anymore! We are in elementary school and find this extremely immature because my other child, who I still want to remain anonymous, also has told me that the kids around school are cussing. And dating. In fifth grade? Elementary school? I find this extremely immature! I expect, and once more from the teachers! This is not the school I was expecting to have dating, cussing, etc. I shouldn’t be able to expect this from elementary school. If you want to put your child in Coppergate elementary for fifth grade, be my guest, because the school, I would not recommend.

Your child is not safe at this school. The staff puts their hands on children. They allow bullying. They allow bullying after being informed. Physical bullying. Teacher student favoritism. Teacher will kick your child to the back of the room to avoid working with them. If your child needs glasses, breaks them in the back of the class, teacher refuses to put your child in the front where the can see even with a doctor's note. You must have the doctor write it on a prescription or they will ignore your every attempt to help your child. Must have a prescription to sit where you can see the board. I can go on. I would forward all my emails if it would help

My two grandchildren were thrilled to attend. Wonderful children’s Mass and faith formation. However teacher turnover not acceptable for private school tuition. With that said they also have wonderful teachers but great turnover. The bullying is unacceptable. The administration takes no action to address these issues. When adults do not protect children it can have a profound effect on their faith and ability to trust adults. Very concerning

If you’re looking for a school that prides itself on enrolling families that are white, two parent, upper class that fall into the category of Privlege then this place is for you. My child was enrolled and then disenrolled on the basis of a challenging family dynamic (Divorce) that led to the owner of the school making a unanimous decision to put our family and most importantly our daughter in a precarious situation and without childcare. We had our son at this school previously and I would never recommend this place ever again based on how the administration and others managed this situation and communicated with us.

The reviews are real cute, coming from what I believe to be faculty and staff. Could also very well be from parents who are PRIORITIZED! Favoritism is big here. Cliquish for sure. For instance, when we first enrolled, we were told to sign up for the after school program. We were also personally told by the guy (who acts like he’s security) who helps run it. All for them to tell us, WAY before school started, that there was no room. My child had to stay for a bit and the things I heard on the phone, when they didn’t know he was on the phone, is horrendous! Yelling, disrespectful communication towards the kids. AND there were plenty space!! A joke! The teachers are great depending on who you get. A male 4th grade teacher is NOT it! A parent told us she removed her child immediately once she found out her child was placed in his class. Bullying is very high. They try to hide it. They also do nothing about it! Please do no let your child have a learning disability, the teacher boldly rolled his eyes and had an attitude about having to put in extra work! Our child was also graded differently than his peers when in GROUPS! Ha! They can’t hide their bias behavior to save their lives. The principal only cares about Pokémon! Coming from a privileged background, you would think, just think that they would include other ethnic backgrounds and have kids feel included. Parents as well. Nope. I can’t imagine having black history month, only for them to not do a single thing to support! But guess what’s approaching soon? Korean Night. Learning about their traditions, having Korean bbq, etc. Not a single Black History Program, lessons, or projects. What’s going on here? I can tell you, step foot inside and see the majorities faces and you’ll get it. They are extremely money hungry. Pushing you and bullying you into donating $100,000s goals, multiple times a year. For what? A non playground that has yet to be built?! Who is managing this money? It’s so funny and frustrating. I can’t wait to have my child start at their new elementary school that proves through ACTIONS that they include everyone. As I do not want my child growing up thinking they’re better than another background. Regardless of skin! Shame on you Melrose! Principal! And staff! LAUSD seriously needs to get involved and investigate. Talk to parents individually and personally. Not through Melrose’s survey that can detect who you are through your email once submitted.
