In 1998, GreatSchools Founder and CEO Bill Jackson recognized the potential of the Internet to engage parents more deeply in their children's education. He launched GreatSchools initially as a guide to Silicon Valley schools, reaching 3,000 visitors in the first year. Today, GreatSchools is the leading national source of school performance information for parents, reaching 52 million unique visitors and 50% of American families with children. Along with profiles of more than 200,000 PreK-12 schools and more than 1,000,000 parent and community ratings and reviews of schools, provides information, tips, activities, and tools that help parents get the best possible education for their children.

We work to inspire and prepare parents to visit and apply to high-performing schools that will be a good fit for their family. In addition, since finding a great school is just one of the decisions parents face, we help parents with advice and resources to help guide their children to great futures — at home and at school.

Building on years of experience working in Dayton, Milwaukee, Washington, DC and Indianapolis, our new GreatSchools Local model provides a framework for building deep local partnerships around the nation. GreatSchools Local combines the knowledge, insights, and relationships that local school systems, government, researchers and nonprofits possess with the communications talents, technology platform and broad reach of GreatSchools.

Although GreatSchools is primarily supported through advertising and licensing revenues, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, GreatSchools is serving more parents than ever before. With broad reach and deep expertise in parent engagement, GreatSchools is well positioned to inspire and support millions of parents to raise their expectations, develop new skills, and access resources to lead their children to success.
