This high school is listed as a 9-12 school. It will be a 10-12 in 2014-2015, because the high school is not big enough to hold all of the 2000 plus students that will be once both of our class "A" high schools are combined. Nobody is misleading anyone, it is just because of phyical space. The 9th graders will be placed in the middle school as it is being debated. If you do research the enrollments, you will see that there is a large number of kids school of choicing out of this system. This has recently been on an upward trend because of poor administrative leadership. This High school consolidation is just another example of that.
Anyone posting on this forum (or any other) claiming that Lapeer Community Schools will now, or at any time in the future (while the East campus is the main HS campus), have 2,000 or more students in one high school is purposefully being deceitful to push an agenda. I encourage all of you to be a part of the process, to gain an understanding prior to forming an opinion. Our district doesn't have anywhere close to 2,000 students in grades 10-12 today, let alone two years from now. Shame on you for willfully misrepresenting a plan aimed at securing a sustainable and innovative future for students. It's easy to post misinformation and much more difficult to get involved in the process. I encourage you to do a little research on current enrollment and projections. The numbers being thrown out are preposterous. If you think this "agenda" was put forth by the Board of Education, you are sorely mistaken. The 4-year strategic plan (and subsequent updates) was created by the District's leadership team in concert with six task forces open to the public and chaired by parents, staff and community members. The Board serves in an oversight and advisory role. It does not run the district.
Closing this School is just a agenda created by this school board of ex-administrators, current employees of education system. They feel it will be easier on them to run just one school. In spite of what is best for the kids. They found a young superintendant who could be bought out on supporting this agenda. Agreed to payout nearly 200K a year. His passion is supporting this agenda and his salary. Most 34 year olds would definatly jump at this opportunity-can you blame him. His kids and family (passion) falls with Oxford. Vote out incumbants, the school board is were it starts.
Reading the parents concerns of this school district is making me think twice about buying a home here. I'm planning to move to MI from Texas and have a 10 year old who is very use to GREAT TEACHERS and STAFF! I'm use to talking openly and being heard by the superintendent and the board. I will not accept defeat when it comes to my daughter. Being an educator myself, following up regularly and being a true pain in the behind works....Oh might I add I pray also. A 35 year old Superintendent is trying to make a name for themself... many times give them enough rope and they will hang themselves, along with the board.
We have had a great schools at Lapeer West so far. My son started in the 8th grade, which was not ideal, but West made the best of the situation in keeping the 8th graders separate from the rest of the students. The school is now 9th-12th and we have a great experience so far, with very involved, attentive teachers, as well as a great prinicpal. Mr. Zeeman is very involved and gets to know all the kids by name.
Great school, could use more updates. My children love it and the diversity in classes and teachers.
Frankly, my learning experience at Lapeer West was far surpassed at numerous other schools and I want future classes to have it better than I did. This school needs better funding, and anything that serves that goal is worthwhile as far as I'm concerned.
We have a Great group of Teacher and they all care about the kids! They work hard to improve our system. Great teaching gets Great kids!
This is an excellent school! Go west football team! You rule! You are the best!
There are two high schools in lapeer, one for the east side and the other for the west side! Lapeer west has very good athletics, there are alot of drugs and fighting but the school handels in correctly. For a small town this is a very good school. The school is on the small side but it works. I would definetely reccomend this school to any parnet who wants there child to have a good education.
My daugther has been a student at Lapeer West since her freshman year. She is now a junior and absolutely loves it. There are some things i dont really like about it, like the drugs, but over all its a very good school. She is involved in all kninds of sports and student activities. Lapeer West is a great school for athletics. I would highly reccomend this school...
