i love gjhs i couldnt have asked for any other teachers to have they are the best

Gilbert Junior High has helped my kids thrive in school. The teachers are very caring and look out for the kids who may need special attention. The student body is a good mix of social economic backgrounds. The campus is smaller than others in the areas which gives the kids more opportunity to be involved.

Gilbert Jr High is a small school with a BIG heart! There is a place for every child at any level. My daughter is a current 7th grader there. She has played volleyball and softball, made cheer, and is in student council. The coaches there are amazing! We might not be as competitive as some the other Jr highs with our smaller population, but everyone gets a turn to try. My daughter played club sports and was on a team that never lost a game prior to playing at Gilbert Jr. But with the different skill levels at Gilbert Jr that gave my daughter a unique opportunity to share what she has learned prior and encourage the other players on her team! The coaches are truelly there for every child. They have never said a negative word at any game. They were 100% encouraging to EVERY child! Sports are huge for our family and with open enrollment we can chose to send our child to any of the top sports programs in the district to play at. We choose Gilbert Jr high! Even without a 1st place trophy the rewards my child received from being a part of this team will last a lifetime!

I sent two of my kids to Gilbert Jr High and both were very successful there. My third child is set to go there next year and I expect the same. The principal cares about each student, and the teachers are fantastic. Every student has a unique opportunity to belong whether it is through academics, sports, clubs, yearbook, cheer, dance, SHO, etc. There is a great deal of camaraderie and tradition at GJHS. I can't recommend a better jr high in the Gilbert district.

I have sent all my kids to Gilbert Junior High. They took Honors classes, and the schools has excellent band and choir programs. There are lots of long-time teachers there, a great tradition and a family-like feeling. It is the smallest regular junior high in the District, so lots of opportunities that you might not get from the larger ones, which can be 2x the size. It is easier to make it on the sports teams (my chilldren played basketball and volleybal). Best science teachers in the District! The Principal is outstanding, and has a long history with the school and district. Fantastic leader for the school, truly inspirational. Many other JH's in the district have had a lot of turnover at the top, but not GJHS. Great neighborhood school that offers everything from special education to honors classes to meet all needs.

I have had my eldest child graduate from this school and she is doing great in high school. My current seventh grader is going here. Like anything in life, it's what you make of it. This was the first year he tried out for seventh grade flag football and he had a blast. The teachers are great and are willing to help. If my child needs help on an assignment, he knows he can go early and receive it. The principal is wonderful to work with and is willing to do anything to help this school become even better. It's located in a nice, safe, good income neighborhood. The school has programs for special education, regular academics, and honors. The numbers on the AIMS test scores are skewed because it is the only junior high that has all levels of academics in it for the Gilbert School District. My child is learning and growing and is enjoying his junior high experience.

Gilbert Jr. High is a GREAT school! The teachers, the administration, the students, all wonderful. This is a great community to be a part of. It truly is like a family here. My daughter has been in the Gilbert school district since 5th grade, so she hasn't known all of these kids since kindergarten or anything like that. She was made to feel so welcome here. She has a fantastic core group of friends. The teachers care about the students, they give help when needed, they want to see the students succeed. The administration is always willing to help when needed, as well. From the front office secretary to the counselors to the principal, they care about EACH AND EVERY STUDENT at their school. Gilbert Jr. High may not be the highest in socio-economic standing school in the district, we may not have the most aesthetically pleasing school on the outside, BUT we have the BEST community, the BEST teachers, the BEST administration, and the BEST kids in the district. I wouldn't send my child anywhere else.

Gilbert Junior High has been a wonderful experience for my 7th grader. The small community means that he knows everyone. He's been able to participate in sports he may not have succeeded in at a school where 300 kids try out. GJHS has something for everyone. The Science department is awesome, with teachers who go out of their way to encourage imagination and exploration. The honors program is exceptional as well. The staff is always willing to go the extra mile, and they offer after school tutoring for every class. At a time when life can be difficult, GJHS has helped my son excel. I wouldn't send him anywhere else.

Gilbert Junior high has an amazing staff. I had many inspirational teacher here when I was a student. Years later, I find myself teaching on this campus, and I'm proud to do so. The same Tiger Pride that filled the halls years ago is still strong today!

I hate this school. I have okay teachers but thats because I work hard to get them. The students here are not very nice. When you start going to this school you get labeled and judged before anyone gets to actually know you. They give anti-bullying presentations but its not like that helps. It is all about your looks here. Your either popular or invisible. This school district isn't very good either. They had to take away silent reading for a new class called AP that everyone had to take. They made that class because some people needed academic support. They also have an after-school program called academic support for kids with a C or lower. I know tons of people who went but never got out because their grade never got higher. According to the students all you do is read a textbook while the teachers are doing their own thing. I would hate it if you ended up sending your child here and had the same experience. PLEASE get a boundary exception to a better school! P.S. the sports teams here is also terrible and the school lunches.

This school is awesome! I had alot of fun and did really well last year and I am definitely going back here next year! The teachers try as hard as they can to help you succeed and pass the AIMS tests. There's no drama here, since we don't have rich, snobby students like Highland Junior High. I would recommend going here because if you try here you will easily pass your classes and you won't have peer pressure either. Go Tigers!!!

Think twice before you enroll in this school. The teachers dont care if you fail. They dont help you at all! I switched to greenfield junior high and its wayyy better than this school. Its so miserable there and the front lady at the desk wont help you intil she feels like it. Nobody will greet you or ask if you need something when you walk in. The teachers and office look like they all hate working there. So if i were you i would never enroll there!

My son attended 7th & 8th grade. He enjoyed his experience there and made a lot of friends, but as a parent some teachers were great in communicating, others were not. Without snap grades I suspect communication would have been non-existent. I had to work very hard to keep lines of communication open and felt like the administration would rather I let my child fail, until of course he did, then they wanted my input. Mrs. Thompson the counselor was wonderful and the only real saving grace for the school. Information about school activities needed to come home to parents in a more timely manner, and sports communication about games, schedules and changes were horrible. Their sports teams look like the unwanted stepchild with their poor uniforms compared to the other schools and the kids know it. There is no support for the drama department from the school. Consider other options.

Certain teachers have poor interpersonal skills affecting students. One teacher would not answer e-mails to discuss students grades and was rude when asked how parents get involved if teacher will not respond. Principal does not exhibit high quality leadership skills.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
