In the Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS), students can attend their neighborhood schools or magnet schools that focus on such areas as the performing arts, science and foreign languages; some schools offer "advanced studies" programs with a more rigorous curriculum. The deadline for magnet applications is in late February. The district also provides special education services.
Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as "in need of improvement" have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.In Louisiana your child can attend any school in the district (called intradistrict choice) or outside the district (interdistrict choice) if the school your child is enrolled in is considered low performing. Your child can also attend any school outside the district as long as the receiving school has entered into an agreement with your current school.
