I have read the ratings that have been previously posted here by other people years ago and a lot has changed. My child now attends this school and I can't get out of there fast enough if another opportunity opens up due to my child's age and the cut off limits for other schools. So many accidents have happened to my child here at this school and it makes me wonder what the staff is doing. The language my child comes home repeating from other students is horrible. The staff is hard to work with as another reviewer mentioned. Paperwork doesn't get turned in from one department to the next. I have been asked 4 times this year alone for my childs medical records. I have witnessed a several students and less than polite behaviour towards one another and the teacher passes it off as the student being grumpy. I have witnessed first hand an account of a student voicing concern to the teacher about what they needed and got ignored twice. And no homework for my child and their grade and I have asked numerous times. I now give my child work at home. The only thing I like about this school is the LINC after school program which I hope they keep!

This school is a very good school, the teachers really care about the students. Since the students are mostly from low income families they focus on reading and learning skills. They have some 1st grade children that can read at third grade level and higher. I am a grandmother and I am very impressed with my 1st grader and 5th grader learning skills. The office workers can be hard to deal with sometimes.

The students teachers and parents communicate about learning at Weeks Elementary. The grades K-3 use Reading First funded by a grant. Weeks is one of 15 KCMSD schools to use Reading First and participate in year 3 of the grant that references the initiatice Leave No Child Behind. The class sizes are low to average most of the k-3 classrooms have 22 or fewer students. Students have homework, and opportunities for afterschool help through extended-day. Parents are invited and welcome to visit the school as often as possible. Mrs. Wright with LINC and Weeks staff host a monthly SNAC meeting after school for parents and staff to communicate and network. Reading First (grades K-3), and Success for All (grades 4-5) will always be a part of the success students achieve for the 2006-07 school year. Teachers encourage parents to learn more about reading activities for their children. Parent involvement... a GOAL!

This school is a clean school, but they have so many fights that break out in there. But teachers are very nice and hard working.
