If you (and your kids!) are willing to put in the work, there is no limit to what you can get out of this school. I'm still amazed that we go to such a place. We came from a very highly rated conventional school that didn't fit my son's learning needs well. To be fair, the school did attempt to work around the challenges, but there's only so much you can do in a classroom with all the other kids who need attention as well. When we started here, I was excited about the ability to structure a challenging curriculum for him, but what really blew me away was the kids! We've met so many great kids and families here. Did I mention we feel so lucky to be a part of this school?

I am blown away by this school. It is hard to believe that such a perfect educational institution exists, but it does! My kids are happy, accepted, encouraged, and have so many choices. As a parent, I am considered an equal in my children's learning and am wholly supported in the homeschool portion of our learning. Small classes, high caliber teachers, organized, effective and the most beautiful campus! We are blessed!!

Coastal Academy is a WONDERFUL school. We feel so blessed to be part of it. I have so much respect for a school that cares about your personal views while also giving you a huge amount of support. We started out on C track which is all homeschool and then moved to a 2 day a week track. It is the perfect balance for my family. They learn so much in a typical week, it blows my mind. Music and science are brought to the students weekly. The teachers and parents work hand in hand. The staff truly has your child's best interest at heart. The charter school is well established so they run very efficiently and effectively. The classrooms are beautiful and campus is brand new. I love the small class sizes. 20 students is perfectly manageable. The teachers are amazing, energetic, and passionate about education. It's so refreshing. We have tried the local public school and a different charter, and this is where we are staying. I can't say enough great things about Coastal.

If your child doesn't "fit in the box" at your local public school, this school is a great choice. Teachers care and work with parents to find the right learning options for each student. Highly recommend this to any parent looking for a quality education for their children.

Our sons started school at our neighborhood school and we spent two and a half years there. My older son had learning difficulties and was beginning to describe himself as dumb. I was very worried, as my son - a 2nd Grader - had begun to walk with his head down and lose interest in learning. My decision to switch my children to Coastal Academy was made in desperation. I felt that I just had to try an alternative to traditional schooling. My sons have now been at Coastal for two years and they're both thriving. They're energized and empowered and excited to learn about everything. Not only are my boys happier, my husband and I are happier too! As a family, we all learn and experience so much together. We could never go back to a traditional educational environment. Coastal Academy is the place for us!

Our school is wonderful! They have done such a great job in giving the parents the freedom to teach their children but ensuring that children meet the state's standards (we as parent educators don't have to worry about that). It's hard to pair educational freedom with meeting standards - especially when "standards" are not always important to parents who homeschool their children. We are bound by them, yet feel that we have to meet the Common Core Standards. There is so much more to learn - such a vast and rich amount of knowledge for our children to acquire and yet they are educationally oppressed by busy work in traditional schools. This school operates "out of the box" and has done an outstanding job in partnering with parents to teach our children. Children really do LEARN something! This is an "untraditional" and exceptional school for families who want something different for their kids.

This is our second year attending Coastal Academy and we're loving it! Such a great community of kids, teachers and parents. There are so many enrichment opportunities made available at Coastal Academy that just aren't possible at traditional public schools. We are thrilled our children are receiving such a well rounded education.

This is my second year sending my children to Coastal Academy and the more time I am at the school the more I fall in love with it. The teacher/parent partnership is invaluable. The school combines homeschooling with in-classroom schooling and I really do feel like my children are getting the best of both worlds. The staff is so dedicated to the kids and parents and there is always a great energy about the campus. I feel very fortunate to be able to send my kids to this charter school! Highly recommend.

My daughter is in 8th grade and loves this school!! That alone says a lot. She hated our public middle school for a long list of reasons. Coastal is a charter school that is extremely well-run. They don't use the online K-12 system that's advertised on TV; we tried that 2 years ago and it has way too many flaws. The curriculum at Coastal is far superior - they use a variety of sources and the curriculum is well-crafted, well thought out, and coordinated. For example, assignments in Writing are intertwined sometimes with work in Science, and sometimes with work in History The teacher-student ratio at Coastal is excellent, communication between the school/teachers and parents is easy and welcome, and one of my daughter's favorite things is that the kids rarely use swear words - probably because there are always adults nearby. Coastal also offers more options for things like music, art, and drama. There are several different "tracks." "C-track" is home-schooling, and "M-track" is for 7th and 8th grades and helps transition the kids from home-schooling into high school: they work at home on Monday & Friday and attend school T, W and Th, and it works really well.

Coastal Academy is an amazing school! The administrators, teachers and parents understand how important a well-rounded education is and implement ideas into classes that cater to all children's learning styles. They support us as we home-school our children with engaging curriculum supplied by the school and also encourage us to use curriculum we find on our own. Coastal Academy wants our children to become Thinkers, Creators and Achievers and they are succeeding!

We have been at Coastal for the last 7 years. It has grown so much, but is still to me the best of both worlds for my children where they can get onoe on one time at home and then also have a clasroom setting the other days of the week. our school feels like a family and is awesome!

The environment is one of inclusion. It is a school that believes in partnering with the parents, and it feels that way. There is so much support and individualized care for each student. There is a wealth of people ready to support each child and their family. You simply cannot ask for more. What a difference it makes to individualize learning to each child instead of trying to bring each child to conforming to the teaching.

Coastal Academy is a true find. It gives us the flexibility we want along with the support we need. TCA allows me to teach my kids at their own pace with the curriculum that best suits them. When I need some answers or some help, the staff is right beside me to offer suggestions and advice. There are so many extras that it's tough to choose. And the parent community is exceptionally active and supportive. We love our school!

Our family loves everything about Coastal Academy: the parent involvement, the rigorous academics, the ability to attend classes while homeschooling, the staff and administration, and the ever growing and changing program offerings. My oldest son graduated after 6 years at Coastal and 4 years at CAHS and is studying Mechanical Engineering at R.I.T. My second son is graduating this year after 8 years at Coastal and 4 years at CAHS and playing Varsity Football. He has plans to attend Palomar's firefighting training program and then transfer to UCLA for his bachelor's degree. My youngest son attended Coastal for 9 years and is a sophomore at CAHS. He recently joined the swim team and is participating in the musical theater production of Footloose. Nothing is ever status quo at Coastal Academy. The parents and students make a difference, have a say, and will feel their impact in the decisions of the administration. We loved the school, the program, the staff, the field trips,... ALL OF IT!

This is an absolutely amazing school! I am so happy that we found out about it, my kids will definitely never be going to a "regular" public school for their education. Coastal has the best faculty around. The principal Mrs. Perez is so involved with the kids. It is so refreshing to see her outside every morning helping kids out of their cars and regularly seeing her checking into my daughters classroom. The teachers are also wonderful and extremely helpful. They are definitely there to help your child get the best education possible. The office staff is also amazing, helpful and so nice! For those who don't know, Coastal is part homeschool, part workshop. They also have a full time homeschool program. Yes, you as a parent have to put time and effort into your child's education. I as a parent, wouldn't have it any other way! Coastal also provides tons of sports, electives, fieldtrips and clubs. This is truly a great school and if you are willing to give your child the best possible education, this is a great place to do it!

The Coastal Academy has great Music, Art and Sports programs. The Academy offers guitar and voice, art classes taught by Art teachers and offers a variety of sports that include swimming, basketball and rock climbing. We came to Coastal from the Encinitas School District (known as the best.) Unfortunately, that school had let go of the music teacher and Art was taught by volunteer moms every couple of weeks. Their high test scores were from teaching to the tests. I am very grateful for having the Academy as an alternative to traditional public school education.

Quite often kids at the top of their class get lost in the shuffle as so much attention is paid to the kids who need to be brought up to speed. Coastal Academy allows for my child to be taught at her level. Rater than lumping her in with the crowd we are able to choose a curriculum and level that best suits her and challenge her at her level, not just feed her grade level work . At the same time, the school gives the option of traditional school structure for workshops and has field tips every month so students have the opportunity for positive socialization. The staff is friendly and helpful. The communication between school and parents is far and away the highest level I have ever experienced in any school. The teachers are amazing and genuinely care about each child as an individual and helping parents to help their children achieve their best.

Read the fine print before you enroll your child. I was not happy with the volunteer hours requirement for a homeschool charter, and other requirements and restrictions. It's probably a good fit for families who want to school-at-home, rather than homeschooling . If you are attracted to this school primarily because of the 'part-time' schooling option, shop around. There are other homeschool charters in various colors that offer similar settings.

The academic performance at coastal academy is stellar. The school offers a wide variety of classes and has a strong support system for all levels of learning. The variety of extracurricular classes offered is amazing. My child has the opportunity to experience many different activities throughout the year at little to no cost to me. I love that he has so much exposure. A child and a schools success is based on parent involvement and the level of dedication from coastal parents is enormous. I recommend this program to all.

Parent involvement is essential to success. Students are home schooled a minimum of 3 days per week. A home-schooled student body often suffers from lack of classroom respect and discipline but benefits from the support of individual learning styles. Classroom Science and History instruction is not consistent from grade-to-grade. Home study science curriculum is weak, history is classical. The school lacks a cohesive writing curriculum beyond 5th grade. Junior high math suffers from lack of qualified and/or experienced teachers. Math curriculum is in flux. Junior high has also suffered from a 1/3 per year teacher turn-over since the school's start. Strong music/musical theater program offered both in class and as optional labs. Art history program averages 8 classroom hours per school year. No music or art programs provided for A,B track home study. Sports limited to parent volunteer after-school clubs, off campus.

I enjoyed the teachers at this school. Mr. Sanchez, who has now moved to California, was easily one of the best teachers I have ever had, the only comparison being Miss Clifton, the 8th grade teacher. The disclipline at this school was abysmal. The prinicpal would send kids home in the middle of the day for saying controversial words such as fag, while allowing other kids who constantly pestered others to be sent off for a severe tongue lashing of 'Don't do that again'. Other than the principle this school was pretty good. If one does decide to come to this school, the teachers are excellent. They were pretty much the only reason i decided to stay.

My daughter went to The Coastal Academy for 2 years, and overall it was a fun experience. She did very well academically, although we were very dissapointed with the 6th grade teacher, who has now left. The field trips were fun, but they had a tendency not to relate to the currentsubject they were studying. I was very dissapointed in how discipline was handled, however. My daughter was called naems her entire time there, and the teachers just denied it, saying, 'That just doesn't seem like something so-and-so would do.' about the teasers. That eventually resulted in her leaving the school.

While the concept of this school is wonderful, the Standards are too low. Most parents who decide to homeschool their children are unhappy with the results of public school. They adopt a more advanced curriculum at home. Homeschooled children tend to score off the charts in comparison to public schooled children. The coastal academy follows the guidelines and standards of public school so your curriculum is the same as the public school and you don't achieve the goal of higher learning. We came from a private Prepartory school where my children were 2-3 grades ahead of public school. My 3rd grader was bored with the curriculum and covered most of it in his 1st grade. If you are looking for higher learning you will not find it here. The school is pleasant and staff nice if these are concerns, but you can find all this in public school.

This school is a good mix of school and parental involvement. I had homeschooled my son for several years following a disastrous time in regular public school. Coastal Academy gave me a break from teaching 2 days per week while my son would attend classes at school. The teachers are very nice, and my son's teacher has accomplished so much considering he has learning disorders. The 'extra' classes one day per week have been great--they have Spanish, Latin, PE, Science labs, etc. However, communication between school educator and home have been disappointing.

When we came to Oceanside, we tried the traditional public school. The kids (grades K & 5) were bored; they couldn't even bring home their textbooks so we could do extra. We switched to Coastal. The teachers have been wonderful. They work with us to assure that the children are challenged and interested. Class size is also much better at Coastal. My daughter (grade 5) went from a class of 30 with a teacher who did not know all their names to a class of 20 where her teacher (Ms. Diaz) knows each student individually. The school is clear (it's a new building), safe, and stimulating. The teachers are wonderful and dedicated. Aside from the need to drive the children (no bus) and the small playground area, I have no complaints, and those are such small things in comparison to the larger issues that I recommend Coastal without any hesitation.

Coastal Academy is wonderful. The students get the best of both worlds at Coastal, a normal classroom experience(2 days/week) and work at their level on their homeschool days(3 days/week). The principal and teaching staff are amazing. They create such a caring, respectful environment for the students and parents. I have found everyone at the school to be friendly and helpful. The staff is very responsive to parents' concerns, no matter how big or small. The school offers music and Spanish as part of its regular curriculum as well as offering optional labs in creative writing, art, guitar, Latin, and many others. It is a charter school, so there is no tuition, only a committment from parents to help their children succeed is required.

I am very happy with The Coastal Academy. We live in an excellent Carlsbad school district but I chose TCA because I like the parnership between the parent and teacher - this school is unique in that students may either be homeschooled full time or attend a traditional class two days per week, with a maximum of 20 children per class. If you have gifted children, or children who need extra help, the three days at home can be customized to meet your child's needs. This is our second year with two days per week in the classroom, and my kids always look forward to their 'school days.' The teachers and principal are approachable and will do all they can to ensure your child's success. There is a lot of parent involvement, as you might expect, but I wish it was easier to meet other parents. Great school!

At the end of second grade we decided to homeschool our son, but I was at a loss for where to begin. Coastal Academy was an absolute God send. Their unique approach to an individualized learning program has been an unbelievable asset to us. My son is able to work at his own level in each subject, with a personalized program that meets his every need. My son is again excited about school. Lori Perez and the staff at Coastal is always availible to assist parents in any way necessary. The schools excellent Lab program has allowed my child regular interaction with peers and expanded what I could teach him at home. The program is unlike others I've found. It can serve as a great asset to a family with a child excelling, struggling, or right on track. Take the time to call the school you won't be dissappointed. Mrs. D
