Since Fall 2011 Olney has become one of the Best Neighborhood Schools in Philadelphia. The school has an international flair and respects all nationalities and heritages. The school has a full time parent coordinator that welcomes parents inputs and ideas. The school is warm and welcoming to both students and parents. Breakfast and lunch is prepared FRESH daily, No PROCESSED foods, not even in the vending machines. The teachers and administrators eat the same meals as the students, trust me its good. When the bell rings and the school day ends teachers stick around the building both inside and outside. I recently attended the schools homecoming dance and it was a pleasure. The teacher to student ratio was maybe 6 to 1 or higher. A very pleasant learning environment for any student.
This school is the absolute worst, now that Aspria has taken over its basicially a school for the spanish speaking, my son has a flag of puerto rico on his chest everyday an all he know is hola, he is all American. Please dont get me wrong, its beautiful to learn about puerto rico but lets mix it up an learn about everything! And y u cant brown bag lunch, no hoodies, no sneakers, no lockers, no cell phones, the policy has gotten on my last nerves. Im sick of this School an ready to put my son somewhere were hes not forced to learn someone elses heriagte an can freely learn about his own. And F.Y.I his grades are just as good as they were last year! This school is a Hott Mess an the staff is very unprofessional. (Urked)...
It's important to know that Olney is now being administered by the Aspira Charter School organization, and that after only 1 month into it's first year Olney is a very, very different place, and all for the better. Work remains to be done, but it's no longer the bad example of education that it used to be.
realyy bad its not wwhat they saying about thats its good too much fights no teachers help us they spend their time arguing with student than to teach really ccorney here
As a retired teacher, I worked at Olney for 30 years. This school is a disaster brought on by one incompetent administration after another. Everyone honest knows Olney has deteriorated over the years. Its test scores are among the very worst. Attendance is awful. Teachers are exhausted and discouraged. The school is dirty and violent. Kids cut classes constantly. The only thing this school excels at is dreaming up creative new 'programs' that never work and creative fairy tales to sing how great everything is. If you love your children, do not send them here.
It is very interested in the growth and education of the whole child. The teachers are dedicated to the progress of each student.
the vice principal is really nasty, don't like her at all.she is really young & has a nasty attitude, unprofessional as hell
