I do not recommend this school. My son went here from 1st to half of 2nd grade. After the same teacher picked on him for the entire 1st grade and then placed in her 2nd grade class, I removed him. Turns out that my son had ADD and this teacher, of 12 years, was unable to sugggested that I have my son tested for the possibility of a learning disability. Instead she claimed that he was just "daydreaming in lala land". Not to mention the school is in the parking lot of another school.

My child has been in this school since it opened last school year 2006-2007, it keeps the parents involved in the childrens achievements and there are less students per class than a regular school.

  • SUCCESS Academy is a K-6 school located in the Southeast area of San Jose, in Santa Clara County. Built in 2006, the school consists of eight portable classrooms and an office/staff room. The school will expand by two portable classrooms in the 2007-08 school year. The buildings are arranged in two row facing each other with the office at the front head of the rows creating a courtyard like shape that is conducive to holding school meetings and community events. The school now houses 176 students but will grow to about 250 students over 3-4 years. SUCCESS Academy is one of sixteen schools in the Franklin-McKinley School District. It is an open enrollment school drawing students from all over the District as well as inter-district transfers. These students reflect a wide diversity of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. An effective school propels itself with high expectations for ALL students. As a school we believe all students can succeed if given the tools and support to develop the whole child. In order to achieve this end, we believe that education needs to be tailored to the strengths of a child while also addressing their areas for growth. Positive assets students bring to school will be our starting point as we make learning meaningful and relevant around those strengths and interests. We need to look at all the assets the students bring to school as opposed to looking at them through the deficiency lens. SUCCESS Academy provides a standards-based education especially made relevant to the child’s background, culture and language. In addition, project-based learning and community-based activities make the global concepts outlined in the standards real for the students. Real-life connections will be made as the school makes extensive use of the community as a learning laboratory. Literacy is one of the most important outcomes in educating a child, and the school will provide a strong focus in this area. Students will be expected to read, write and speak on a daily basis, using a balanced literacy approach that stresses both skill development and higher level thinking.
