First off let me stress that the so called "good reviews" posted are more than likely fakes. Staff impersonating parents to lure your kids into the school. No parent at that school would ever give it 5 stars. If you are an active parent and want your child to receive an outstanding education, do not send them here. There is false information on the website. There is no cheerleading, music, P.E., etc. They define music as sending in an unqualified substitute, who then takes the class outside. My child has a total of three recesses because of this. Multiple recesess are more important than teaching. This is because the teachers are not passionate, and inexperienced. They also lack patience, so what do they do, take the kids outside to get rid of them. The kids have not taken a field trip all year long, no museums, science fair projects, etc. There are no ways to engage or stimulate your kids minds, this is important for active hands on kids. The staff will focus more on ensuring your childs uniform is intact before addressing the real needs of the school. This is only to fool onlookers and make the school appear as if all is well. Don't be fooled, find a better school for your kid.

I have 3 children at this school. I love the close relationship that I have with their teachers. They can call or text for anything concerning my children. The strength of discipline is really showing this year and I can see the growth in my kids as well. The school is about to have a new Principal for the new school year. I hope he/she fits in well and helps to uplift the administrative side.

It's always hard to see a great school plagued by the references of a few angry parents. I have been incredibly impressed with the education that my child has received this year. Moving from his old school, I have seen a huge difference in his performance and I know it' s due to the strong team at PLPCS. The Principal is sort of absent from the school but other than that the teachers and the other administrators in the building are always helpful and they return my calls right away. I couldn't be happier that my child attends this school. i do wish they had more sports programs though.

They administrative staff is receptive to a point. But there is one teacher that seems to have a real problem with the girls and favor the boys especially when the boy is tormenting or hitting the girls. The administrative staff will not address it.

The school is so different this year than in previous years. My daughter is in middle school and she absolutely loves it. The teachers are amazing and the school really feels like a different place. They definitely got tough on discipline which is a good thing because now my daughter says she rarely sees any misbehavior which is helping her focus better. She loves what she is learning and they also have new specials as well. I think they've done a great job.

This school is ridiculous, do not send your kids there. Very unorganized, cant keep teachers, suspend kids for basically nothing. Most staff is there only to get a check they dont care about the kids. Cant keep a bus company to transport the kids back and forth to schoool. They got the teachers driving the bus. Do not send your kids there.

Potomac Lighthouse PCS suspended my grandson for two days because he had an accident. He's not yet 3 yrs old. They left him in a bathroom stall for at least 15 minutes while his father made a frantic dash to collect him. The child cried all night. I cannot believe any preschool program could be more barbarian than this school!

My child struggled at his previous school. He's excelling due to the wonderful teachers! So happy I made the choice to put my child in this school. The school is also open to feedback from parents.

If I could give a ranking lower than one, I would. Two of my three children have been students at Potomac Lighthouse since the Fall of 2011. In the first semester, the school lost both of their fifth grade teachers. Two classes became one, and it was a tremendous upheaval to the routine, familiarity, and dynamic to which the children had grown accustomed. In the second year, they brought on a new team with the promise that it would be a "completely different school". In that time, the upper academy has experienced daily and weekly restructuring, as ineffective teachers have been rotated out of the upper academy and placed in the lower academy in order to gain "classroom management experience." The school has implemented a draconian discipline policy in their attempt to mimic what has worked for other schools, resulting in a complete and total lack of respect for the children by the adults. I have observed the humiliating tactics employed by the teachers to redirect the children's behaviors. This school misrepresents itself in it's mission and vision, and the only thing rigorous about them is the destruction of self esteem, community building, and quality education.

School Administration: I have had a different experience with the school administration. They are very receptive and responsive to the needs of the family. They are a relatively young team and work extremely hard. They are receptive to feedback and make every effort to implement the suggestions of families. My child loves going to school there and every year the school gets better

As far as learning, this is an excellent school. However, the administration in this school are the worst. They are unorganized and not connected to the students or the parents concerns. Their transportation is a joke. If you're able to take your child to and Friday m school it will cost you.less head aches. There's so much nepotism( hiring of only relatives and friends) in this school that it should be illegal. The teachers (most of them) are the only reasons I have put up with this school. But be warned that the incompetent administration let go of teachers with no consideration of how it will effect the students. As please ask your student what is going on in the school because of the nepotism it is a lot of bias situations going on. Things I have heard and saw with my only eyes in this school would make.you scream. I'm Looking for another school. Good luck and God Bless.

Potomac Lighthouse is a charter school with great potential, but leadership that is worried more about the bottom line than anything else. Students are often not held to consistent expectations, and staff is hired and dismissed at whim without regard to how it will impact students. I do not recommend this school to parent seeking a quality charter school education for their student.

This was my son's first year attending a chartered school. He is in the first grade and I love his teacher. She's young, vibrant and she makes my son want to learn. I really think my son enjoys his class. On the administrative side being that this is a new school (i'm guessing) the school doesnt has good management skills and they seem all over the place, no order. Customer service was great during recruitment but know attitudes through the roof.
