I am so sad to have to write this review because I really believed in Semillas but they have let me and my children down. Where do I even begin, the school is overcrowded and unorganized the staff is very unprofessional and at times rude to students. Many of the great teachers that worked there left or were fired for reasons unkown,one of my children had 3 english teachers in one year. I feel bad for the teachers that do work there because I know it can't be an easy place to work at. There was a great Math teacher there who was spectacular and really had the children doing great, however the principal fired him and suprize, now the Math scores are way down. Me and my husband don't feel comfortable speaking up because we feel there will be repurcussions on our children. We were just told because of "budget" cuts the students will be getting out of school at a different time. How can you just change the scheduale in the middle of the year. The priniple and vice principle are husband and wife and the husband is also on the board, a pretty cozy situation of power so there is really know way to rid them from the school, and we believe they are the root of the problem. It's true the school is far from teaching students anything about leadership. The school is overcrowded, and not well organized. The teachers are great, staff is unprofessional, those who think they are leaders are far from it, and the school is a mess. I believed in the school, and its intentions to continue to teach dual languages, our culture, and roots. I trusted this school with my children, but they failed miserably in promoting independent thinking. The school is test driven. One more thing, the school does have a lice problem. The person who wrote "an uneducated idiotic bigot" is a staff from Semillas, and so this is what you have to deal with. We are simply giving our opinions from a parents perspective, and should be respected without being attacked. My daughter was always getting sent home with lice notices. She was infected many time, now in her new school she hasn't had a problem.

Great school, if your looking for the traditional LAUSD school this isn't your choice. This is not a test driven school and encourages kids to be independent thinkers.

its a really good school my daughter goes there and she says she is enjoying what they teach her and the classes that they teach are aztec language, math, english, humanities, spanish, physical education,art , technology, and science ..

My child attended this school and now they are at a nearby Elementary School. My children were/ are great at speaking mandarin, dancing, singing and have learned about the american indian cultures. The problem is that they were not fluent in reading, math, or writing. I had to move them in order for them to learn these subjects.

Academia Semillas del Pueblo is a blessing for my children. The education they receive there goes above and beyond on all levels. The curriculum that is offered is rich and engaging. The teachers are very dedicated to their students. They are giving our children the opportunity to become truly global citizens. The languages and culture are expanding the students outlook on the world around them. My kids love their school and that is very important to me. I've seen them blossom in this enviornment. They have a chance to ask questions and to learn from their peers. They are encouraged to be individuals and to be leaders. Semillas is the wave of the future!

We have two boys enrolled at Semillas, and could not be happier with our childrens learning experience.We home-schooled our children before we found this school, and had we not found it, would still be home-schooling. The directors, teachers and staff are all caring,loving individuals that make our children and parents feel at home away from home. We love our school because it is highly comitted to higher learning and creating community through collective efforts, and for giving our children a global perspective.

I am a mother who would have had to struggle financially to home school my daughters. I would have struggled if it were not for Semillas Del Pueblo because it is the only school in L.A. county that offers exceptional teachers, ciriculum and cultural strength & awareness. This school by far stands strong in building a strong educated community.

Strong leadership demonstrated by the principal et al. Office personnel efficient and caring. Parental needs and concerns are always taken seriously. If my child so much as sniffles or if he doesn't eat his lunch, I can expect to hear about it. As parents of a future global citizen, instruction in English and Spanish was the most compelling feature of this school. Mandarin instruction by a Chinese instructor what a bonus! Our child is incorporating his ancestors' traditions in a rapidly changing, high-tech world. Thank you Semillas for existing off the grid, so to speak!

As a parent and high school teacher, Academia Semillas del Pueblo is truly pushing the envelope when it comes to innovation. By incorporating cultural content, such as native languages from Mexico and China,along with engaging lesson plans (i.e. project based curriculum)to fulfill state standards, Academia Semillas del Pueblo is providing a quality education for all their students. It is truly a unique experience,I recommend it for all children.

Prior to my son's enrollment at Semillas he was mistreated and discriminated for he was culturally conscious and inquisitive. As a result he had internalized the negativity directed towards him from other schools and began to reflect these attitudes, occupying his mind from the 'banking method' of learning. At Semillas the experience has been different. He has been treated with dignity and as a result has positively engaged himself socially and academically. Now he flourishes and shines as a leader, student, and socially conscious individual. Semillas encourages creativity and takes into account 'all' methods of learning.Go Semillas! ~C.H
